March 2018 - Warmth

As the glow of Spring draws near, this month we celebrate the necessity and comfort of physical and emotional warmth. Gently heat your gut with herbal salt, honey, and tea! Then soothe your skin with a warming oil and treat your heart to thoughtful, fiery poems by this month's contributor, Robyn Campbell.

This blend is called a finishing salt because it is meant to be added to a dish after it is prepared. Salts are also lovely additions to marinades/dressings, or they can be rubbed on meats and seafood before cooking.

Ingredients: Himalayan Pink Salt, Rosemary Leaves, Satsuma Mandarin Orange zest, Garden Sage Leaves, Juniper Berries, Garlic, Black Pepper

This warm and spicy blend is especially good on poultry, but also adds interest to herbed goat cheese blends, roasted roots and stuffing. You can also add it to olive oil and vinegar to create a flavorful salad dressing. Or try it in a Winter Squash dish! Add a little extra warmth to your final Winter dishes.

This crimson tea embodies warmth and comfort in a cup.

  • Hibiscus Flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa) High in anti-oxidants. Yields mucilage and pectin (relieves irritation of mucous membranes.) May help calm nervous system + reduce high blood pressure. A heart opener.

  • Violet Leaf (Viola tricolor) Relieves inflammation of digestive tract, expectorant, + laxative. Blood cleansing - hangover relief.
  • Whole Cloves (Caryophyllus aromaticus) Carminative (warms up the digestive tract, speeds up and increases the thoroughness of digestion, and reduces gas.)
